AZ50HD 37kW Dual Shaft Shredder

Powerful and robust shredder for tough applications

AZ50HD Feature
AZ50HD Shredder

37kW dual shaft shredder

With 229mm shaft centres the AZ50HD is a capable shredder for heavy duty applications and can be configured with customised cutting chamber lengths.

The AZ50HD is our most popular and versatile shredder. Originally developed to eliminate shaft breakages common on smaller machines in tough applications such as paper and tyre shredding, the AZ50HD has proven itself to be a reliable and robust performer.

This unit can be configured to shred most materials including paper, tyres, oil filters, steel drums and medical waste.

Overview

A heavy-duty 37kW dual shaft shredder for demanding primary shredding. The AZ50HD is Brentwood’s most popular and versatile dual-shaft shredder—designed for tough, low-speed high-torque applications where reliability matters. With 229mm shaft centres, the machine is built to effectively grab and draw in larger items, and it was originally developed to eliminate shaft breakages commonly experienced by smaller shredders in heavy-duty work such as paper and tyre shredding.

The AZ50HD is configured to suit your stream with a choice of cutter widths (20–94mm) and cutting chamber lengths (1060/1180/1274mm or custom), and can be supplied with DOL or VSD control panels with auto reverse and overload protection. Typical applications include tyres, paper, oil filters, steel drums, medical waste and product destruction streams, depending on configuration.

FAQ

What is the AZ50HD best suited for?

The AZ50HD is a heavy-duty 37kW dual shaft shredder designed for tough, low-speed high-torque primary shredding. It’s a strong choice when you need a robust, versatile shredder for demanding streams and you want proven reliability in continuous industrial use.

Why is the AZ50HD considered Brentwood’s most popular and versatile shredder?

The AZ50HD is widely used because it covers a broad range of heavy-duty applications and was developed to address issues that can occur on smaller machines in tough duties. It has become a “workhorse” model for customers who need reliable performance across multiple waste streams.

What materials is the AZ50HD commonly used for?

Typical AZ50HD applications include tyres, paper, oil filters, steel drums, wood and bark, plastics, medical waste and product destruction. Final suitability depends on the exact stream (size, contamination, density), the way it’s fed, and the cutter configuration selected.

What makes the AZ50HD better for tough applications than smaller shredders?

Compared with smaller units, the AZ50HD provides higher installed power and a heavier-duty build designed to handle tougher loads. Its geometry and driveline are intended to deliver strong bite and torque for demanding streams, particularly where smaller machines can struggle or wear faster.

Why does shaft centre spacing matter on this model?

Shaft centre spacing affects how effectively bulky items are grabbed and drawn into the cutters. The AZ50HD’s wider shaft centres help engage larger items and reduce “bridging” on top of the cutters, improving throughput and consistency on bulky feeds.

What cutting chamber lengths are available?

The AZ50HD is available with different cutting chamber lengths: 1060 mm, 1180 mm, 1274 mm, or custom lengths depending on your application and required throughput.

What is the AZ50HD not ideal for?

As a primary shredder, the AZ50HD is generally not intended to produce tightly controlled fine particle sizing on its own. If you need consistent final sizing, this is typically achieved with additional sizing steps (secondary shredding) or alternative machine configurations such as a quad shaft shredder with a sizing screen.

Do I need DOL or VSD control for the AZ50HD?

The AZ50HD can be supplied with DOL or VSD control panels, each with auto reverse and overload protection. The best option depends on your material stream, feed method, duty cycle and site electrical constraints. If you need softer starts, more control over torque/speed, or want to manage starting current, discuss VSD control.

What power supply does the AZ50HD require?

The AZ50HD is specified for 3-phase 415V / 50Hz supply and uses a 37kW drive (2 × 18.5kW motors). Your electrician should confirm site protection, cable sizing and installation requirements.

What current draw should I allow for starting and running?

As a guide, the AZ50HD specification lists full load current (FLC) of 66A and DOL starting current of 536A. If starting current is a constraint at your site, talk to us about suitable starting/control options

What are seal protection plates and when should I consider them?

Seal protection plates are an option intended to help protect seals in harsher environments—for example where fines, contamination, wet material or abrasive content may be present. If your stream is dusty, abrasive, wet or contaminated, ask whether seal protection plates are recommended for your duty cycle.

What does “hot dip galvanised casing” mean for durability?

A hot dip galvanised casing provides a durable protective coating that helps resist corrosion in industrial environments, particularly where moisture or corrosive contamination may be present.

How do I choose the right configuration for my application?

We typically confirm material type, piece size, contamination, desired shredding outcome, and how you plan to feed and handle the output. If you can describe your stream (or provide a sample), we can recommend cutter width, chamber length and control/infeed options that suit your duty cycle and site constraints.

Can Brentwood integrate the AZ50HD into a complete shredding system?

Yes. The AZ50HD can be supplied as a standalone shredder or integrated with infeed hoppers, stands, conveyors and discharge arrangements to suit your site layout and process requirements.
